Fire Line

Overview
Seattle Fire Department saw a nearly 5% increase in call volume, responding to a record setting 111,319 incidents. The rapid increase in the number of incidents has prompted the Seattle Fire Department to start considering how to better manage and communicate.
My Role
UX Designer in a group of four other designers.
Problem
Fire department teams lack an integrated platform to optimize their emergency response.

Currently the incident management, resource allocation, and post-incident reporting processes are fragmented, leading to delays in response times, inefficient resource utilization and a lack of comprehensive data analysis for informed decision-making

Persona
How might we
create a digital platform for the Seattle Fire Department in order to optimize emergency response efforts and improve overall operational efficiency
Our solution
Fire line is a digital platform outfitted for fire stations in North America thath seamlessly connects to regional emergency response systems
It fosters interoperability between dispatch, department systems, and on-site support while also providing data for trend forecasting, analysis, and operational efficiency improvements
Ideation
Current flow vs. Proposed flows

Task 1
Exchange information and synchronously update incident details

Task 2
Write an incident report promptly

Task 3
Uncover past reports and analyze data

Style Guide
Uncover past reports and analyze data

Reflections
If we had more time...
-
We would be interested in mapping out the allocation of real-time resources: a list of all current resources (apparatuses, personnel, etc.), number count with options to request support.
-
We would have loved to explore pre-incident planning features to rebuild detailed, actionable pre-plans with robust mapping tools and predictive incident features.
-
Exploring how to support and optimize communications with outside departments such as Emergency Medical Services and Police, both digitally and face to face was another area we didn't have much time to explore.
